What to bring
- Your UK driving licence
- Your Theory pass certificate
- A suitable car
The five parts of the test
- 01
Eyesight check
Read a number plate from 20 metres. Fail this and the test ends immediately.
- 02
"Tell me / show me" questions
One vehicle safety question before you drive, one while driving.
- 03
General driving ability
Driving in a range of road and traffic conditions.
- 04
Reversing manoeuvre
One of: parallel park, bay park (in or out), or pull up on the right and rejoin.
- 05
Independent driving
Around 20 minutes following sat nav directions or road signs (sat nav used in ~4 of 5 tests).
Manual and automatic test formats are the same. Passing in an automatic means you're licensed to drive automatic vehicles only. You won't be asked to drive on a motorway during the test.
