Your Instructor

About me: David Brough.

I passed my own driving test first time in 1994 at the original Banbury Test Centre on West Bar, and driving has been a passion of mine ever since.

In 2006, I went on to pass my full motorcycle test first time in Warwick, and I’ve proudly been a biker ever since.

I then spent 20 years serving as a Police Officer, much of that time in roads policing. During my service, I gained a range of advanced driving qualifications including Advanced Driver Class 1, Advanced Motorcyclist, and Off-Road Motorcyclist. My career gave me a unique insight into how and why collisions happen, the risks young drivers face, and the importance of calm, measured decision-making behind the wheel. I was fortunate to experience many memorable moments during my service — from high-pressure response driving to the honour of escorting the Olympic Torch in 2012 — but above all, it reinforced for me the responsibility that comes with driving and the real-life consequences of poor decisions on the road.

In 2017, I qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor and have continued to develop my skills through further professional training in areas such as Safeguarding, Client-Centred Learning, and “Meet the Standards” training with the multi-award-winning Knowledgeable Instructor Training.

I am currently studying towards a Professional Diploma in Coaching and Behaviour Change for Safe Driving. This allows me to bring a deeper understanding of driver psychology, risk awareness, and decision-making into every lesson.

As both a former roads policing officer and a driving instructor, I understand that learning to drive is not just about passing a test — it is about building safe habits, sound judgement, and confidence that lasts long after the L-plates come off. Parents and learners can feel reassured that lessons focus not only on vehicle control, but on developing the awareness, responsibility, and decision-making skills needed to stay safe on today’s roads.

My approach to teaching is calm, structured, and supportive. I combine real-world experience with modern coaching techniques to help every learner progress at their own pace and build confidence for a lifetime of safe driving.
