Your Instructor
About Me – David Brough
I’m David Brough, a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), and I’m proud to be born and raised in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Driving has been a lifelong passion of mine. I passed my driving test first time in 1994, my full motorcycle test first time 2006, something I’ve continued to enjoy ever since.
20 Years in Roads Policing
Before becoming a driving instructor, I spent 20 years serving as a Police Officer, much of that time specialising in roads policing.
During my service, I achieved several advanced qualifications, including:
-
Advanced Driver Class 1
-
Advanced Motorcyclist
-
Off-Road Motorcyclist
This experience gave me a unique, real-world understanding of:
-
How and why road collisions happen
-
The risks faced by new and young drivers
-
The importance of calm, controlled decision-making
From high-pressure response driving to the privilege of escorting the Olympic Torch during the 2012 London Olympics, my career reinforced one key message:
Driving is a responsibility — and the decisions you make behind the wheel truly matter.
A Driving Instructor Focused on Safety
In 2017, I qualified as a DVSA-approved driving instructor through the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
Since then, I’ve continued to invest in my professional development, completing additional training in:
-
Safeguarding
-
Client-Centred Learning
-
“Meet the Standards” training with Knowledgeable Instructor Training
I am currently working towards a Professional Diploma in Coaching and Behaviour Change for Safe Driving, allowing me to bring a deeper understanding of:
-
Driver psychology
-
Risk awareness
-
Decision-making under pressure
Coaching-Based Driving Lessons
My teaching style is calm, structured, and supportive.
I use modern coaching techniques to help you:
-
Build confidence at your own pace
-
Develop independent decision-making skills
-
Understand why you’re doing something, not just how
This approach ensures you’re not just learning to pass a test, but learning how to drive safely for life.
More Than Just Passing Your Test
As both a former roads policing officer and a driving instructor, I know that passing the driving test is only the beginning.
My lessons focus on helping you develop:
-
Strong hazard awareness
-
Safe driving habits
-
Responsibility behind the wheel
-
Confidence in real-world driving situations
Whether you’re a complete beginner or feeling nervous about getting started, you’ll be learning in a safe, supportive environment with a strong emphasis on long-term safety.
Local, Experienced, and Trusted
Being from Berwick-upon-Tweed, I understand the local roads, test routes and driving challenges in the area, from rural roads to town driving.
This local knowledge, combined with professional experience and coaching-based instruction, helps you feel fully prepared for both your driving test and everyday driving.
My Commitment
Calm, professional instruction. Real-world experience. Safe driving for life.
